WINS-ICT Training Workshop on FP7
Training workshop “FP7 - Opportunities to Participate in European Research” focused on fostering of successful participation of local researchers in EC 7th Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development held in framework of project “Western Balkan Countries Inco-Net Support in the field of ICT”. Workshop brought together twenty researchers and has been focused on administrative and financial issues. During the second day several bilateral session were organized. Mingl Career profiles: first Serbian online system for career guidance of young poeple
Belgrade Open School launched web portal Mingl Career Profiles in order to help young people in Serbia to manage their career choices more easily and according to psychological standards of the career guidance and counseling process. Portal offers online tests, recommends the concrete occupations and provides their description. The list and data of relevant faculties and higher education institution is also available, together with the page for creation of the personal career plan - profile. During only one month the portal has reached around 1500 users.

BOS started to train teachers from the schools of secondary education in career guidance and couseling
Career Guidance and Counseling Center of Belgrade Open School started with the trainings of secondary education schools in career guidance, at the same day when Government of the Serbia adopted national Strategy of Career Guidance and Counseling. Trainings will include 15 schools of tourism and catering and 60 educational workers in total (principals, teachers and psychologists). Project goal is to contribute to Serbian educational and economic development through senzibilization of secondary education schools employees in Serbia for Career Guidance and Counselling. Project is supported by USAID.

Serbian Government adopted Strategy for Career Guidance and Counseling in Serbia.
On the meeting held on 4th March 2010. Serbian Government adopted Strategy for Career Guidance and Counseling in Serbia, as proposed by Ministry of Youth and Sport. Initial text proposition for the Strategy was created in 2007, during the project of BOS Career Guidance and Counseling Center supported by CIDA. BOS gathered the leading experts in the field of career guidance coming from diverse institutions: National Employment Service, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Economy, Ministry of Labor, Chamber of Commerce and Union of Employers. The success comes after almost three years of negotiations and constant promotion and affirmation of the importance of the introduction of the career guidance and counseling system into Serbian mechanism education and economy.

OSI CHEVENING CAMBRIDGE OVERSEAS TRUSTS JOINTLY-FUNDED SCHOLARSHIPS FOR POSTGRADUATE STUDENTS

OSI/FCO CHEVENING SCHOLARSHIPS 2010-2011 University of Oxford & University of York

The Belgrade Open School welcomes applications from citizens of Republic of Serbia for the OSI/FCO Chevening Scholarships 2010-2011, which are jointly funded by the Open Society Foundation and the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office. The scholarships are intended to provide opportunities for postgraduate study in selected fields in the United Kingdom for scholars and young professionals who demonstrate both academic excellence and the potential to become leaders, decision makers and opinion formers in their home countries. Applicants must have excellent academic qualifications, a clear and precise proposal describing what they wish to study, and a fluent command of the English language. The scholarships cover all university and college fees, travel to and from the UK, and basic living expenses for a single person.

OSI UCL Chevening Scholarships Five Scholarships for 2010-11

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office, the Open Society Foundation - London and University College London - School of Slavonic and East European Studies are offering five scholarships for graduate study.

University College London (UCL) is renowned worldwide for its high quality research and teaching. Its School of Slavonic and East European Studies (SSEES) was given the highest rating ‘5’ in the UK Research Assessment Exercise 2001 confirming its international excellence.

The five scholarships offered are open to nationals and residents of either Macedonia, Moldova, Russia (Nizhny Novgorod, Irkutsk, Samara, Far East only) or Serbia, who are accepted for one of the following one-year Master’s degree programmes at UCL’s School of Slavonic and East European Studies:

Undergraduate Exchange Program 2010-2011
The program seeks to assist educational and civic development in Southeastern and Eastern Europe and Mongolia by exposing participants to a liberal-arts curriculum, different models of classroom instruction, community service work, and civil society–related programming. UEP combines the U.S. liberal arts academic experience with exposure to American social issues and civic development through involvement in community service–related work. The program aims to create lasting ties among participants and their American colleagues, thereby contributing to cultural understanding and tolerance.

Participants attend a university or college in the United States for one year. While in the United States, grantees agree to complete 25 hours per semester of community service work in an area of interest to them. At the end of the year, they are expected to return home to complete their degrees. Once back in their home country, grantees complete a community-based service project in their own community.

Career Academy - Call for youth!


Belgrade Open School and Informative Portal Mingl invite young activists of local and regional Youth Offices in Serbia to apply for participation in our new project. Career Academy is open for young people from the age of 16 to 20.This educational project will combine online and interactvinve training methodology in order to train 25 young people how to explore and manage their own career, but also to be able to later on transfer gained knowledge and skills to their peers.

Project „Strengthening Religious and Human Rights for Democratic Serbia“
Centre for Religious Studies of Belgrade Open School from December 11th 2008. to February 11th 2010. is leading the project “Strengthening Religious and Human Rights for Democratic Serbia“. One of the project activities is redesign and update of the content of web site “Religions of Serbia” (www.religijesrbije.bos.rs) and web portal “Faith Knowledge Peace” (www.veraznanjemir.bos.rs).

Within the scope of this project, The National Conference “Religious Communities and Civil Society for Empowerment of Human Rights and Democracy in Serbia” will be conducted in Vrnjacka banja. Conferences will last for 4 days, and will gather app. 40 participants: representatives of civil society organisations, primarily peace building and youth ones, high representatives of traditional churches and religious communities, official representatives of ethnic minorities (National Councils), local authorities, journalists, teachers and professors, including confessional teachers, political activists, etc, all being able to share best practice cases.

The conference will be organised in the form of panel discussions. The participants will be clustered in three working groups:

Working Group I – Churches and Religious Communities and Public Authorities – Interweaving, Confrontation or Partnership
Working Group II – The role of Churches and Religious Communities in Public and Political Life
Working Group III – Religion and Ethnic Identity – Universal and Particular in the Real World

Joint conclusions – Conference Declaration will be professionally edited and delivered to respective authorities (local and state ones), all relevant media, published on the Action web site Religions of Serbia (www.religijesrbije.bos.rs) and the web portal Faith-Knowledge-Peace (http://veraznanjemir.bos.rs), as well as sent to offices and braches of relevant international organisations in Serbia (Delegation of the European Commission to Serbia, Council of Europe, United Nations Development Programme, United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe), as well as associations of churches and religious communities on European and global level (World Council of Churches, Conference of European Churches).

Beside the organization of the Conference, the project also includes next activities:

• Design, Development and Dissemination of the Policy Briefs and Policy Memorandums based on the Conference Declaration

• Online course “School of Tolerance: Ethnic and Religious Communities in the Promotion of Human Rights”, where 25 selected young activists of civil society organisations will be introduced to online education (Internet based educational process), as a crucial tool for improvement of communication on inter-religious, inter-ethnic and human rights issues, and relationship towards respect of respect of human rights, development of tolerant non-discriminated democratic society in Serbia

• Update and maintenance of the web site Religions of Serbia (www.religijesrbije.bos.rs) and the regional web portal Faith-Knowledge-Peace (http://veraznanjemir.bos.rs)

The purpose of this Action is to further promote religious rights as one of fundamental human rights, and, consequently, involve variety of faith-based institutions and organisations in the wide scope of civil society initiatives in Serbia. This Action aims to make work of churches and religious communities more publicly vivid, especially in the number of fields that directly provide respect and fulfillment of human rights, such as education, health, social security and welfare, national or ethnic origin, unrestricted equality, participation in the cultural life, etc. Finally, the purpose of this Action is also to promote more common activities initiated by churches and religious communities on one side, and any subject from public or social life of Serbia (authorities, media, NGOs, etc) that will jointly contribute to democratic reform and conflict prevention in Serbia and support conflict resolution. >>>

Global Supplementary Grant Program (GSGP 2009 – 2010)
The Open Society Institute's Network Scholarship Programs (NSP) is pleased to announce the Global Supplementary Grant Program (GSGP) for the 2009 – 2010 academic year. GSGP offers supplementary grants to students from select countries of Eastern and Central Europe, the former Soviet Union, and Mongolia. The purpose of the program is to enable qualified students to pursue doctoral studies in the Humanities and Social Sciences at accredited universities in Asia, Australia, Europe, the Middle/Near East, and North America.

Eligibility
The Global Supplementary Grant Program is available to citizens of the following countries: Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bosnia, Croatia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Kyrgyzstan, Macedonia, Moldova, Mongolia, Montenegro, Russia, Serbia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan.

Students pursuing doctorates in the medical, physical, chemical, technical or natural sciences as well as fine or performing arts are not eligible for this grant. Ineligible fields of study include:

- Business Administration/Management Training
- Computer Science
- Finance/Banking/Marketing
- Engineering
- Hard & Natural Sciences (Physics, Biology, Chemistry, etc.)
- Mathematics
- Medical Sciences

GSGP grants are for students pursuing doctorate degrees only. Students admitted to master’s programs with the intent to continue, but who are not clearly admitted into a Ph.D. program, are ineligible.

Please note that this is a supplementary program not intended for full funding. Applicants must be able to demonstrate additional support from other sources. >>>

INTERNATIONAL SUMMER RESEARCH PROGRAMME 2009
This is the third year that the Crown Prince Alexander II Foundation for Education continues cooperation with L’ Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) in Switzerland on promoting its educational programmes and offering access in its research projects to top students from Serbia.
The Summer Research Programme will give to the participating student hands-on research experience on projects in its four institute’s research labs and special seminars and activities during the programme.
The programme will run from 6 July - 28 August 2009 although earlier arrivals and later departures can be envisaged.

Call for Application 2009/10 'Cultural managers from Central and Eastern Europe'
The Robert Bosch Stiftung invites selected German speaking fellows from Central,
Eastern and Southeastern Europe to Germany for a thirteen-month course
qualifying them in international cultural management.

The aim of the program is to familiarize a German audience with the
cultural variety of these countries, to strengthen network structures
for workable cooperative ventures between Germany and its eastern
neighbors, and to qualify the next generation of managers for
international cultural exchange. The program is carried out by MitOst e.V.

In the year of the European Capital of Culture Pécs 2010 three Hungarian
cultural managers will be invited in cooperation with the Hungarian
Ministry of Education and Culture to participate in the program in
Germany as ambassadors from the Capital of Culture.

Belgrade Open School and Informative web service Mingl, announce call for participation in e-learning programe "Net @ction". Call is open for secondary education students from Serbia.

Through unique course that combines learning in virtual surrounding with the non formal education students will find out more about youth activism. They will be trained in founding of NGO's, project writing and management of local actions, volunteering and other methods for problem solving through own initiatives.

CePIT of Belgrade Open School, Web portal Mingl, and 12 Youth offices of Republic of Serbia, invite interested secondary education students of final year to apply for participation in the project "Don't miss the calls - empowering of secondary education students by ICT usage for entering labor market ".

Call is open for secondary education students of final year of vocational education coming from Belgrade, Novi Bečej, Subotica, Kula, Pančevo, Kragujevac, Kuršumlija, Loznica, Bor, Varvarin, Niš i Arilje.

Selected students will have the opportunity to learn how to:

• Do active job search,
• Prepare their CV and do well on job interviews,
• Become peer educators,
• Attend interactive workshops and virtual school.

Regional School "1968: 40 Years After"
Regional School "1968: 40 Years After" Belgrade Open School, Heinrich Boll Foundation and Balkan Trust for Democracy are organizing Regional School “1968: 40 Years After” which will gather 25 talented students from countries of Formal Yougoslavia, domestic and foreign lecturers and 1968 participants for purposes of marking four decades of events which shaked Europe. School will be held in Rabac, Croatia, from 28th September till 4th October 2008.
The goal of this Regional School is to contribute to the political and academic development in the former Yugoslavia and to enhance regional cooperation of selected outstanding students in the region through dialogue on the political legacy of 1968 and its contemporary outcomes.
Eligible candidates have to be senior (final years) university students, preferably of social sciences, humanities or related topics, who are socially active, have active knowledge of English, and are interested in social and political development in their respective countries and the Western Balkan region.

Application time will last from September 1st till September 15th 2008, and candidates have to submit full application package which includes:

- filled in the application form, which includes the Letter of Motivation;
- transcripts from the university with average grade;
- one letter of recommendation;
- CV.
